Review: Just Yell Fire

This is a follow up to the ABC's of Self Defense post. The website Just Yell Fire is about preventing abductions and sexual assaults. Although it is geared towards teenage girls, it is good information for everyone. Founded by Dallas Jessup to help girls fight back. The website offers a free online video that is also available as a free DVD for those without an internet connection. The powerful message in the 46 minute video has spread to 41 countries.

The video starts with a discussion on prevention. The number one thing stressed is to be aware and trust your instinct. Throughout the video there are alarming statistics on personal attacks. It is a cold reminder that attacks are much more common then you think. The second half of the video covers basic techniques demonstrated in real life scenarios. They show what to often happens and then what you can do to get out of the situation. A discussion of the principles and techniques follow each example.

I suggest you watch the video first before watching it with your teens. It is gut wrenching at times. But, personal attacks are the ultimate violation against a person.

Please pass along and share your experiences. Together we can stop these predators.

Bob,

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Also, nice post here - I think it covers something really important. Although it can be unpleasant to really think about the likelihood of an attack, it's wise to be prepared and have a game plan.
